Why Locals Love The Obstinate Daughter

Nestled on charming Sullivan’s Island, The Obstinate Daughter is an eclectic restaurant that artfully blends coastal Southern flavors with Italian-inspired dishes, creating a truly memorable dining experience. The menu is thoughtfully curated, offering an array of dishes that entice the palate with vibrant, balanced flavors and textural contrasts. Whether you’re sitting indoors amidst its cozy ambiance or enjoying the inviting outdoor seating complete with heaters, this spot perfectly captures the laid-back yet sophisticated spirit of the Lowcountry.

Start your meal with one of their fresh and satisfying sandwiches like the Caprese, where ripe tomatoes, creamy mozzarella, fragrant basil pesto, and garlic aioli come together alongside grilled and marinated vegetables for a delightful medley of tastes and textures. For a heartier option, the Meatball sandwich features tender, tomato-braised pork meatballs layered with parmesan and mozzarella, delivering rich comfort on every bite.

The pasta selections truly shine and are not to be missed. The Campanelle brings the day’s fresh market fish together with the boldness of green olives, roasted red pepper, Calabrian chile, and a satisfying breadcrumb crunch, melding coastal freshness with a pleasant hint of heat. For those craving savory depth, the Strozzapreti with fennel and sausage ragu or the Tagliatelle featuring pancetta, parsnip, sage, and parmesan promise a symphony of savory richness. The Ricotta Gnocchi, topped with a robust short rib ragu laced with horseradish and pine nut gremolata, is an indulgent dish that leaves a lasting impression.

Desserts at The Obstinate Daughter are a sweet punctuation to an already wonderful meal. The Pecan Bourbon Crème Brulée, crowned with a pecan sandy crust, offers a silky, caramelized finish with a subtle nutty warmth. The Flourless Chocolate Torte paired with vanilla crème anglaise is rich yet elegantly smooth, while the Cherry Cheesecake with its classic brown sugar oat crust and tart sour cherry topping delivers a beautifully balanced finale. For a lighter finish, the Affogato with your choice of gelato is a refreshing nod to traditional Italian coffee culture.

What sets The Obstinate Daughter apart is not just its inspired menu, but the overall experience. Diners frequently praise the warm, attentive service—the kind that makes you feel genuinely cared for—and the generous portions that leave you satisfied without being overstuffed. The setting, especially when choosing to dine outside, offers a relaxed and dog-friendly atmosphere, enhanced with heaters during cooler months to keep guests comfortable. Although the space can get lively, reflecting its popularity, it adds to the overall vibrant energy that keeps locals and visitors returning.

While some dishes may resonate differently with individual palates, the heartfelt craftsmanship behind each plate is unmistakable. Whether you’re seeking a casual yet elevated brunch, a lively dinner with expertly mixed cocktails, or a cozy spot to unwind over fantastic food, The Obstinate Daughter invites you to savor each bite and soak in the welcoming island ambience.

Wowsers! This was a great restaurant to enjoy a Sunday afternoon brunch. The food is carefully and thoughtfully prepared - the service was excellent, portions were generous and the cozy feeling of the restaurant left us satisfied - both in our heart and our tummies. The Farro and chicken plate was amazing - sprinkled with peanuts and roasted carefully with brussel sprouts - it was really good. Our waiter Drew was spot on accurate with food order and delivery. This was our first time to visit and I would highly recommend. Michelin 2025 restaurant. Nautical motif throughout. The hostess stand and restrooms are accessed by stairs. I did not inquire about a Lift (elevator) but if there was one - it was not clearly marked. Priced very reasonably for the quality of food.

We were eager to try this place. We had just finished our 5K on the Island and thought hey let’s do this! To be honest, it was during brunch, so to be fair it was just OK. We really enjoyed the Scone platter to start. We all loved the house made lattes. But our dishes left us undecided as a group. The one dish we thought would be amazing was sent back. Beet Cured Salmon, salmon was inedible. We enjoyed the Breakfast Sausage but the grits were kind of missing, too much dairy in those. Good company alas was had and we will go for dinner soon!

We loved the outdoor sitting - with heaters so you aren’t cold. Great atmosphere, excellent service. I expected more taste and flavor from the dishes. They are good but not flavorful enough to my taste. Very good drinks menu. Restrooms are on the second floor but there is an elevator available. A bit inconvenient if stairs are an issue. Dog friendly if you are sitting outside.

The service was excellent. Cocktails were fantastic. It was a little loud for conversation, but it was also a very busy. Food was very good, with just 2 minor comments. 1- the Carolina Gold Rice Risotto was surprisingly bland. Both for the type of rice and the fact that it was cooked risotto style. 2- I understand a chef not wanting to change specials, as it would change the flavor and essence of what they were creating, however it was a little disappointing that they would not leave off a garnish that my father has a strong aversion to. We were not the type of customer to lie and call it an allergy. However the dishes that we all did order were nicely presented and tasted good. I highly recommend the Chowder and the Pizzas! Overall I will still go back and I will still recommend the O.D.

We had a fantastic experience at OD last evening. We walked in and were seated at a high top in the bar area quickly. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, especially our server Sam, who was extremely knowledgeable and engaging, walking us through the menu and providing excellent suggestions. Everything we ordered was very good, including two pizzas, a delicious ricotta gnocchi, and their grouper special of the day. OD was on our “must try list” while visiting the area and it’s easy to see why this restaurant came so highly recommended. We will certainly be back when we visit the area again.

We were able to get a table on a Friday night at Obstinate Daughter after a 30 minute wait, so we were excited to try this popular restaurant. The restaurant is cozy, has a good ambiance and feels familiar. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly. We had two items we saw on social media and one special, the Brocollini. The broccolini was my favorite followed closely by the Radiatore (Vodka pasta). I will the pasta lived up to its hype. The Old Danger pizza was good but nothing super memorable. The drinks were also good. Overall, great experience.

There’s always something to say about really good food. Very rare do I find great food that’s not in a metro. I haven’t had gnocchi that good since back home. Everything was excellent! The meatballs were so perfect, it just wants you to never cook again. Highly recommended. But I’m sure everyone knows that.

Our family had an incredible time at the OD! The staff were so kind and accomodating of our small kids. Service was top notch from beginning to end - our server Gabe was such a delight! He was very knowledgeable of the menu and gave us excellent recommendations. We loved the papardelle, rigatoni, short rib gnocchi, pizza, and chocolate cake with gelato. All heavenly! Thank you Gabe and OD for making dinner so memorable.
